When an Ohio University Southern Campus employee—and new mom—approached Dean Nicole Pennington about a private place to breastfeed or pump, none existed. Within two months, Pennington and staff created a lactation room, the seventh at OHIO. It opened in January, joining two sites on the Athens Campus and one each on the Cleveland, Dublin, Lancaster, and Zanesville campuses. Next up: Proctorville by spring semester. Discussions are underway to add more of what are also called “mother’s rooms” on other campuses and centers. “I would encourage them all to do it,” Pennington says.
